As a CFP®, CPA, MBA, I understand there is a lot for the new business owner to learn, and it can be overwhelming. That is why I put together some essential links for entrepreneurs starting operations, or planning to launch a business in the near future. In addition to writing a business plan, there are numerous tax forms to be filed, as well as filings with your state, and the IRS. Sole proprietors and other self-employed individuals may also need to make estimated quarterly income taxes to the state (if applicable) and federal governments. Also, if the business involves the resale of goods, the business owner must collect and remit sales tax from sales, and remit monthly, quarterly, or annually, depending on sales volume, and state.
The links below include Federal and Massachusetts, as an example. For information for your specific state, simply search for "making estimated payments in (your state)," and the links should populate on the first page of results. I am happy to you select the proper business entity, and file necessary state applications for corporations, partnerships, LLCs or a sole proprietor wishing to Apply for An EIN Online or Register a Fictitious Business Name. All advisory work is $250/hour, and I understand many new business ventures have limited cash flows, which is why I developed the Starting a Business Resources section, to help entrepreneurs save money!
Please make sure you are familiar with the following information by the time you begin operations. We hope you find the following information and links useful, and wish you the best of success with your new business!
